Great win for Constantine

One of our most exciting wins of the season was when the third team won their Intro Cup game at Maidstone. Our top board Constantine Tucker (117) was strongly outranked by his opponent and ex-Medway player Max Garnero (149). Despite this he won after enduring much pressure. In the position (left) Constantine (white) counter attacked with 29. h4 and Max blundered with 29 ... Qh5. After 30. c8=Q, the game continued for several more moves but the result was in no doubt. Well done Constantine on a fine win!

Latest Matches

Our two latest games saw both the first team and the fourth team lose their respective semi-finals. In the Harvey Cup against Chiselhurst, Paul Foster's team completed an unbeaten season by drawing their semi-final match but were eliminated on the

tie break rule of 'Board Count'.

Our fourth team lost 3-1 to Charlton

in the Intro Cup.

However, our growing membership leaves us well placed to go further next year.

Our second team suffered a disappointing defeat in their final game of the Tom Fuller Cup against Maidstone who leap over us to take the second qualifying spot behind Swale.

A valiant win in the third team's last game  of the Intro Cup was not quite enough to secure second place in the Intro Cup being squeezed out on the chess equivalent of goal difference.

Next Matches

The season is nearing its end but the fourth team have drawn Charlton at home in their Intro Cup semi-final.
